Replacing the master brake cylinder.

Over the weekend, I drove my wife to her university, and on the way, I started noticing that the brake pedal was beginning to sink and the brakes weren't catching well. While driving, I had to pump the brakes several times just to stop normally. The reason became clear immediately—the master brake cylinder was failing… I made it home, and once in the yard, I pressed the brakes hard a few times, after which they practically vanished altogether.

Yesterday, I headed towards the repair shop and drove 20km with my hazard lights on, with almost no working brakes. Fortunately, I made it there safely. The mechanics took my cylinder apart and discovered that the seals were torn and there was wear inside the master cylinder itself. They found a good replacement cylinder with no wear and good seals, and installed that one.

Since I had replaced it literally just six months ago, it was really frustrating that it didn't last long… Yesterday we picked up the car from the shop, and I finally felt what good brakes are supposed to feel like, because the new one worked significantly better than the one installed before.

All in all, expectations were met, and I hope this car part lasts a long time.

Another quick observation: Over the last 5,000 km, I had to add 1 liter of oil. I don't know if this is normal for a BMW engine or not. There are no leaks anywhere.) Maybe the piston rings are a bit worn, but I don't see any smoke either. People seem to say that for a BMW engine, this is normal. After all, almost every car consumes a little oil.

Next up, I want to replace the resonator and the muffler. I really want a very quiet car.

Thanks for reading! ッ
