The other day, I started hearing some slight knocking noises in the front suspension, and as I suspected, the problem was worn piston rods in the callipers. On the E30, they're quite sensitive and wear out over time due to a design feature. On younger models, these issues no longer occur, as they've been redesigned at the factory.
So, I decided to go to the service centre over the weekend and check for sure. The mechanics said it was definitely the brake pads and scheduled the repair for Monday, which is today.
I arrived, they took everything apart, removed the callipers... They also discovered that one small stabiliser link was torn, one of the ball joint boots needed replacing, and the brake pads on the callipers needed replacing.
Without a second thought, I went to the market and bought new stabilisers and dust boots.
I bought LEMFÖRDER stabilisers. It seems like they're being counterfeited all the time, though... Well, the mechanic took a look and said they seemed good.
Like these:
We put everything back in place. Thank goodness, there's no more knocking. I also tightened the bumper a bit; mine was a bit loose on the side.
That's how it is.
