The brake pads and rotors were the first things I ended up buying for the FX37S. The old setup looked very tired, and judging by the condition, it honestly seemed like the original pads and rotors may have never been changed.
I wanted to start with something that actually matters on a heavy AWD car like this, so I went with a DBA setup: 4000 Series T3 slotted rotors for the front, 4000 Series T3 slotted rotors for the rear, and DBA Street Performance pads front and rear.
The front setup fitted perfectly - DBA42314S 4000 Series T3 rotors, 355mm, matched with DBA Street Performance front pads DB2400SP. The rear was a different story. The website fitment checker showed the DBA42313S 4000 Series T3 rear rotors as compatible with my FX37, but once it came to fitting them, they didn’t actually fit the car.
In the end, I replaced the rear rotors with DBA Street Series T2 rear rotors, together with DBA Street Performance rear pads DB2401SP. Not everything went exactly to plan, but that is part of owning and learning the car properly.
The FX37S has the VQ37 under the bonnet and a lot of weight behind it, so strong, confident brakes matter just as much as power. This was the first proper step in refreshing the car and making it feel right again.
Maintenance first - then the fun stuff.
