Kumho Tire Co. Ltd., formerly known as The Samyang Tire Co., Ltd., was founded in South Korea in 1960. Samyang Tire produced its first tire in 1961, and settled technological ties with UNI Royal in the United States in 1963. By 1976, Kumho Tire was producing more than one million tires per year and breaking records as a Korea-based tire manufacturer.
